Fussy Tummy and Teething Baby, Toddler Feeding Solutions
EJ had a rough 3 months of tummy discomfort which makes it hard to go anywhere or do anything or even talk to anyone on the phone with his constant high pitched cries! Most often, my hands are tied up since he doesn't like sitting in car seats, swings, or carriers especially after eating since it puts pressure on his stomach. Often, I’d just walk around the house holding him in an upright position so he can look over my shoulder for at least a good thirty minutes. I sure am getting an arm workout with this 16 pounder!
Also, EJ’s teeth nubs are coming in! He often latches on & off possibly because he is trying to soothe his gums. EJ never took to a pacifier, even the teething one he chucks out of his crib. EJ often experiences reflux symptoms according to my San Antonio birth doula lactation consultant nurse.
It gets very exhausting at times with him latching on and off every few minutes and trying to soothe him from him wailing at the top of his lungs for hours on end from reflux like symptoms. I am lucky if I get a 5 to 10 minute feed from this little guy. Luckily, the simethicone drops I learned about a week ago help a little with the tummy discomfort. I still get projectile vomit about 2-4 times a week in the morning though after less than a 10 minute feed.
Overall, EJ & I have learned a lot about how to avoid any sort of discomfort. I learned to hold him up in a straight position for 30 minutes after each feed, not a seated or laying down position, and also to not have him eat where his head is below his tummy. For all other parents who have a baby with a sensitive stomach, I am all ears for pain relief suggestions for a better feed and sleep.
